Probably similar to the Ryan monoplane Lindbergh flew, The Spirit of St Louis.

Yes! It is. The M-1 was a predecessor to the M-2 which had similar nose features as Lindbergh plane. The Ryan NYP was a new build but based on the M-2 mailplane. Good catch!
