Epilogue

Yikers. What a cliffhanger...

So, here's the deal:

This August marked the ten year anniversary of Flatt Bear. This means I've been doing this strip for ten years now. In fact, I Just finished my 1367 strip with this last update. That is a lot of nights huddled in front of a computer screen. I loved doing this strip all these years, love these characters I've created and the world they all live in. Recently, I feel I have hit a creative wall with the strip, both writing and drawing.  Lately I've been cutting corners with the artwork and cheating on the writing and rushing through the art process to just get it done as quickly as possible. So I'm going to take a bit of a break. Not a permanent one, but an extended one. I have several commission jobs that need my immediate attention and need to focus on getting those completed. Meanwhile, I'm going to assess where I need to take the strip next.  I'm not sure if that means taking in a different direction, changing format, or adjusting the update schedule to twice a week or even once a week. Maybe kill of a few characters. I'm not saying this is the end. After ten years investment, if I was going to leave the strip permanently, I feel it would need a proper series finale. So, I'm going to leave this strip with a major cliffhanger in order to show you I plan on returning when my schedule is more clear.

    10 years is a great stint PJ. If I could only keep a comic for so long. I just had a 12 month break due to lost interest but I kept the site up & just started again. Have a great break

      we’ll see how long this break lasts. I figured I’d be feeling like I needed to get back into the game by now, but so far, that hasn’t been the case.

    Yes, I was one of the comics that fell through the wayside. I still have the website, but I’m planning to repurpose it for something else.

    I was checking out my old reading lists (that’s how I came to be here today) and most of the comics I visited are gone.

      Yeah. Not sure what’s to become of this now. I’ve been away from this since November and don’t miss it as much as I thought I would.

    Congratulations! Managing to keep a comic going for ten years is a great accomplishment. I’m currently re-reading Flatt Bear from the start, and checking out all of the links to other comic sites. A lot of them no longer exist.

      Yeah. It’s amazing how many have just disappeared or gone dormant. I will occasionally hit the “Random” button on the comic and start reading some of the strips I did years and years ago, then look at some of the names who used to comment on a regular basis. Seems like a million years ago.
